Dance Family

Dance Family is a performing group whose members are selected from the most advanced dancers of Judy Lasko’s Modern Dance Classes for Children and Teens.

Dance Family was originally created in 1975 – more than 30 years ago! Approximately 200 young dancers, ranging in age from 11 to 18, have been members of Dance Family since its inception. About twenty have gone on to pursue careers in dance or theater.

Dance Family has a two-fold purpose. First, it gives eight performances each year at institutions which, we hope, benefit from our presence. The company performs at public schools, senior citizens’ centers, and health care centers in the New York area. The performances are free, although sometimes Dance Family receives a small honorarium.

Dance Family‘s second purpose is to give the young company members invaluable experience choreographing and performing before varied audiences. Unlike almost any other company of young people, all the dances the company performs are created by the dancers themselves.
